NORTHBROOK ATHLETIC CLUB SPECIAL MEETING
held on 14th October 2009 at Jaguar Sports & Social Club, Browns Lane
Present: B. Adams (Chairman), M. Baker (Secretary), A. Critchley
(Ladies Captain),
J. Hosie (Mens Captain), T. French (Members Sec),
R. Ladbury (Website), J. Ralph (Guest).
- Apologies – P. Stead (Treasurer), A. Houston (Running Advisor),
A. Fodor (Social Secretary),
B. Awcock (President).
- Special Meeting Proposal – Tony French outlined the
following :-
I have been informed by Coventry R.E.V.S. (the organisation
that supplies the Road Closure barriers and radio system, for our 10k Race)
that they are disbanding at the end of the year.
This means that to continue holding our 10k race we would have to find alternative
supplies of this equipment, since they are a requirement of permission
by the Local Authority, to hold the event. That is; we require a Road Closure
Order, must erect appropriate barriers and signs and have a radio communication
system.
REVS need to dispose of the equipment (any surplus funds
will be donated to a local children's charity) and have offered the trailer, barriers, signs
and radio system to us for £1,000.00. The radio system is a brand new replacement
of the unreliable ones we have been using.
Bearing in mind that we have been paying £250.00 each year for the services
of REVS, it would appear to be a bargain with straight-line payback of
4 years. Also; previous enquiries of alternative to REVS produced quotes
of £500.00 or
more (but did include for the provision of personnel to control the system of
road closures - would not quote for equipment only). There will be some ongoing
costs such as radio licence, storage and maintenance of trailer, repairs and
replacements etc. Tony Williams has indicated willingness to store the trailer.
We could loan-out to other clubs (donations gratefully accepted), and maybe Allesley
Festival will be interested in using them!
- Special Meeting Decision – The committee unanimously agreed that we would approach REVS to purchase the equipment as discussed above. Tony French will draft details of a letter, and Mark Baker will then create a final version, to send to REVS communicating our interest. Also, the club will approach the Warwickshire Athletic Association to find out if any grants are available for purchase of this equipment.
