NORTHBROOK ATHLETIC CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING

held on 18th July 2011

  1. Apologies – P. Stead (Treasurer), A. Houston (Membership Secretary)
  2. Matters From Last Meeting –
    1. 110 subscriptions have been registered with England Athletics.
    2. Fourth summer handicap had approx 46 runners. Andy Houston will send an up to date membership list to Richard French.
  3. Treasurer's Report – no details available. Some extra 10km race income is now received.
  4. Mens/Ladies Captain's Report – Recent events were the Cotswold 100 miles (Dave Fawkner completed course), Sphinx 5 (Rebecca Smith 1st lady), Stratford 6, Vancouver Half Marathon, Milton Keynes 10Km, Rowheath 5Km, Trentham 10 miles. Lyn McDonald was 4th lady in the East Midlands Grand Prix. The Thunder Run 24 hour relay is on 30th July.
  5. Social Secretary Report – Thanks to Corinna O’Connor for organising the curry night at Ally’s and the food at the Parkrun. Cakes are still available after the handicaps. Next event is a night at the dog racing in Hall Green (mid September).
  6. 10Km Race – There are some challenges for next year. A date is needed which does not clash with other races. Tony French will be involved but Roger Ladbury will not be available. Also it will be difficult to get any Bruker sponsorship. Macmillan needs details soon to publicise the race. The committee needs to promote the need for 10Km sub-committee helpers, especially for publicity, entries, deputy race director, chief marshal and fundraiser.
  7. 5Km Race - The 5Km was on 10th July 2011. There was no children’s race, but it was advertised in the parish magazine, so some were disappointed. Coventry Runner sponsored the event. Thanks to all the helpers. There were 43 entries. Over £200 was raised.
  8. Coaching/Training - Training groups are starting again. Group leaders are meeting after the August handicap. Track training is being arranged occasionally.
  9. Runner of the Month – June: Dave Fawkner (Cotswold 100 miles). July: Trevor Knight (PB’s at handicap and Park Run).
  10. Any Other Business –
    1. Birmingham League – the league now has a venue for the 3rd fixture at Dudley. John Wilson will ask if Coundon Court school can be used in the following season.
    2. Future Club Events – Wed 27th July – Good, Bad & Ugly relay, 24th Aug – Midsummer 5.
    3. London Marathon – we have applied for club places. We have phoned to check on entries, but need to phone again in September.
    4. Championships – Paul Stead will create a list. Road Race Categories are being reviewed.
    5. Lucozade – A sports scientist will visit Jaguar for a talk on Thursday 11th August.
    6. Website – A member asked if a chatroom application could be added. Roger is creating a database application for Andy Houston’s membership data.
    7. Coaching – Clive will send John details of coaching at Warwick University .
