Our Club
We are a welcoming local running club based at the Jaguar Sports and Social Club in Browns Lane, Coventry. Founded in 1978 as Northbrook Striders with just a dozen or so members, our membership has grown steadily over the years and is now is in the region of 200.
Our aim is to cater for all levels of runner, from the sub-five minute mile athlete to the ten-minute mile improver. Competitive or social runner – you’ll find a welcome at Northbrook.
What we do
Throughout the year there’s a variety of races to take your interest – half-marathons, marathons, 10K races, handicaps and novelty events – and we keep club members up-to-date with local and national race fixtures by email and through our web site.
It’s mainly road racing in the summer months but in autumn and winter Northbrook actively participates in the cross-country season. We enter teams in the local cross-country league, (usually staging one of the races) and offer opportunities for non-competitive off-road running.
Women runners are well represented at Northbrook, entering teams in cross-country league races as well as having a notable presence in marathon and other distance road races.
Races
For several years we have been promoting our own Coventry Northbrook 10K race. Staged in July to coincide with the Allesley Festival. The race attracts a wide gamut of runners from local and not so local clubs.
London Marathon
The London Marathon is a popular event with our members. The Club usually receives an allocation of reserved places, based on its membership. These places are allocated to Club members who qualify for inclusion in the Club’s London Marathon Draw.
Social
Of course, it is not all hard work and one thing Northbrook prides itself on is its friendly atmosphere and social events. These range from pub nights and quizzes to barbeques and curry nights, as well as weekends away cycling/walking/running.
If you like the sound of all this, why not join us and enjoy the experience of Club running. You can be sure of a warm welcome.
Not sure if you want to join up – then try before you buy. Run with us as a guest for a few weeks before signing.
Club runners don’t pay the “Unattached” levy when entering races, and some running shops will give you a discount on non-sale items.
