Rugby Sprint Triathlon - 30 August

  Andy Kelsall   1:34:15

This was my first ever triathlon, and although I finished slower than I hoped, I am very pleased to have finished. Can I also pass on my thanks to all the club members who helped with my training - much appreciated. Does that make me one of the old triathletes in the club? Andy Kelsall

Leek Half-Marathon - 30 August

  Tony Hughes   1:45:52
  Anne Hughes   2:04:43
  Katy Hughes   2:04:33

Anne and I ran the Leek half again on Sunday 30th August; although conditions were cooler than last year the hills were just as high! The course climbs 1220ft with nice views over the edge of the Staffordshire peak district. We were joined by our daughter Katy who travelled up from Bristol. We all improved our times from last year. Definitely not a PB course but if you want some serious hill training ......

Well done to everyone who ran in the annual Good, Bad & Ugly relay, a 3 x 3.7 mile race based at the Bull & Butcher in Corley Moor. Times were very good on a warm day. Late arrival Jerry Trill anchored his team to victory, despite a 4 minute handicap, and won first prize of a bottle of wine each for his team. Linda MacDonald was not far behind, and made sure of the second place prize of chocolates for her team. It was good to see Fraser Barrett racing again after a long injury, but the final word must go to Alix Critchley who ran 2 consistent, consecutive legs on a testing course.

Wedgnock Summer Series Race 4 - 13 August

2 John Hosie 37:32
23 John Wilson 42:52

Great weather and conditions for the final race of the series, and this time I had company in the shape of Mr Hosie. Although I didn't have company for long as John very unsportingly ran ahead of me from the very start and then acheived an excellent second place for Northbrook, well done. The recent dry weather made this the fastest race of the 4, shown by myself only missing my 10K PB by 1 second on a 6.3 mile trail course! This left me in 10th position in the overall standings which was a satisfactory conclusion. It was nice to get a 'congratulations' from John H at the end of the race however things changed from then on as John's cool down was in the shape of a run whilst mine was in the shape of a burger and two sausages from the BBQ. I did manage to win two bottles of wine for the Corporate prize as National Grid were the only corporate team to qualify.

Roll on the winter mud and mayhem!

Idle Trail Race 2009 - 2 August

The Idle Trail race gets more popular each year and with 254 finishers it was the best yet. Always nice to be back in my home town of Bradford for this 10K trail, the scenery is fabulous and not what you would expect Bradford to look like.

The rain over the past few days had made the canal tow paths, fields and tracks very muddy not to mention the 50 or so stone steps (upwards!) after about 5 miles, so it was tough on the legs. Although I didn’t quite feel like the middle aged man my mother had described me as the day before! Really pleased with my time and placing, I was 52nd out of 180 in 2007 so this felt like a real achievement.

Lets hope it transcribes into some faster 5K, 5M & 10K times on the road!
