Hogs Back 8 - 13 December

23 John Hosie 47:28

This was my third trip to sunny Guildford for the Hogs Back 8, although it was the 50th running of this event - which when you think about it really is quite amazing. I presume that when the route was dreamed up the main A road you run along had 2 cars and a man with a flag on it, not so now. The main focus of the race is the 1.8 mile drag up the Hogs Back, which apparently rises 100 metres in that time, this all happens in the first 3 miles and then you are left with a fast down hill bit and some hairy moments though a few villages where the local drivers seemed thrilled to discover the race was on again, perhaps running over a few runners will result in a new course next year. Special mention must go to the Hog Roast sandwiches on offer at the end, and to Colette who has been to watch me run this for the last 2 years and this year decided to run.

Northbrook A Team:12th on the day, 13th overall
Northbrook B Team: 8th on the day

Well my own race was pretty unimpressive, but then trying to run on one lung was always going to make it more challenging. My only attempt at overtaking saw me clash with a white post, that promptly attached itself to my shorts, forcing me to stop, rip it off and pray that my shorts held up for the rest of the race - they did.

Paul Andrew again led us home, and Mick improved on his Senneleys Park result. Good also to see Nathan back, and Martyn Brunt with a broken arm making the counters. Howard continuing his impressive off road season with another top 6 finish.

With Vinnie, Tony and John all finishing so close together the journey back must have involved some interesting conversations, or complete silence?!! But hopefull they will all be motivated to beat each other when we get to do it all again at Sphinx in the New Year.
