My first Marathon – very pleased with my time and looking forward to Dublin Marathon in October - Helen

This was my first full-Marathon and therefore a PB!!! I was a little disappointed not to break the 5 hours mark but, given the heat and hills, I was very pleased. Sub-5 next time! - Andy

Shakespeare Half-Marathon - 25 April

315 Lisa Bragg 1:46:40
452 Jacqui Chislett 1:51:07
538 Andrew Pitt 1:52:16

The veterans categories in this race were 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 and so on.  So, by a quirk of the category divisions Howard made into the 45-54 category, slipping down from being an M50 to an M45!  Howard's not complaining.

I have been to Paris before and I didn't like it. A big lump of rusty scaffolding (Eiffel Tower), 16 euro a pint beer and an abundance of thieves and beggars did nothing to impress me this time either. However a well organised race, good company and a shiny new PB made this a fantastic weekend. Northbrookers were out in force with times ranging from 3:15:11 (Clive) to 5:15:29 (Sean), and even a planned non-finish.

The course was relatively flat with the worst sections being the underpasses. Apparently it was a scenic route but I didn't notice any of it. The water stations were a bit hectic and strangely only on one side of the road. Paul Costain came off badly as he was knocked over a water table, however he still managed to complete the race despite pains in his back.

There was a pretty spectacular PB from Dave Fawkner who knocked 34 minutes off his time for the event last year.

I know I am biased but special mention has to go to Sean. He started running only 6 months ago on a run 3 minute walk 1 minute programme, with weight to lose and a selection of old football injuries. When he finished he didn't even say "never again" just "Next time I will do it under 5 hours." - Corinna O'Connor

  Martyn Brunt 36:23 PB
  Richard Hodge 38:34 PB
  Alix Critchley 40:16 PB
  Stuart Keen 42:24
  Charles Jones 46:11
  Catherine Warne 46:44
  Diane Keen 58:58
  Julie Nunn 1:00:01
  Jo-Anne Hancock 1:02:25

A beautiful day for running on Sunday - a reasonably big race with 1,863 runners through Newbold Comyn and Leamington Spa in the earlyish morning. An undulating first half to the course on trails around the golf course and then along paths through several of Leamington's parks with some tight-ish corners, but it does have PB potential, as the cracking runs from Martin and Richard show. I'm quite pleased with my time too - 37 odd seconds off my PB!!! A reasonable turn out of runners from the club considering lots were in Paris, and some good support from clubmates too - especially Cath - Alix Critchley

While a lot of Northbrookers were charging round Paris (and well done to them all) A few of us trotted over to Leamington for the 6th Regency 10k. Perfect conditions for this lovely race of 5k off road and 5k round the parks of Leamington. Stuart did not 'race' this as he had hurt his back on Easter Monday (doing something unmanly, but if you ask me I will tell you) so was very pleased with his time although a tad slow for him. I really enjoyed this race and although not a PB for me when I compare it to my first attempt at this 1.08.38 I was pleased too and Julie was just pleased to finish as she has not done too much running this year. - Diane Keen

As far as organisation goes, races don’t come much better than this; parking, toilets, marshalling, the flat course. Everything lends itself to a good race experience and gives you every chance of setting a pb should you wish to try. As it happens we did wish to try and most delightfully we succeeded. - Paul Stead
