A 45 mile Ultra from Tring to Northampton, or a 90 mile Ultra when you
run it in both directions.
I really don't know what I can say to describe this
race, but hideous, long, tiring, monotonous, uninspirational and painful
are words that come to mind. The fact I got up the next day to run the
course in reverse was just daft! The course was pretty much flat all the
way for nearly 47 miles, and it was nearly all along the Grand Union Canal,
so the views never really changed apart from when passing through the beautiful
Milton Keynes and Leighton Buzzard! lol
Having said that, the feeling of completing nearly 94 miles over 2 days was well worth a little pain. I'm just hoping for more hills next time! :o) - Guess who
Gloucester Marathon - 23 January
67 | Mark Baker | 3:24:34 | |
247 | Corinna O'Connor | 4:10:29 |
This was the first marathon of the year. After an urban 4 miles from the start, we completed 3 undulating laps of a 7 mile countryside loop, similar to our Northbrook 10Km route. A final mile along a country lane completed the route. Corinna and myself were using this race as preparation for events later in the year. We were both happy with our results. There is also a 50km race at the same time, which I ran 2 years ago; it follows an amended course, but with 4 laps of the loop - Mark

Northbrook finished 15th on the day and are still 15th overall, one place above the relegation zone. However, the safety margin was reduced from 200 points to 44 points, due to some injuries to a few key runners.
The final race could decide whether Northbrook or Centurions stay in Division 2, so a strong turnout is needed for the final race in February - Mark

Trig Point trio Paul, Alix and Dave triangulating their way around Cannock Chase
On a bright, chilly Sunday morning I was happy to join Alix and Paul to tackle this tough course around 16 miles of Cannock Chase. The course was hilly, icy and muddy in parts, but the varied terrain and options on route choice kept the race interesting. A fun day out for all, finished off nicely with a cup of soup and some millionaire cake! :o) - Dave
