Wyre Forest 8 - 12 February

57 Sam Anderson   61:56 3rd lady

I've never emailed my results in before but just thought you might like to know that I was the sole Northbrooker at the Wyre Forest multi-terrain 8 mile race today.  It was really hard work, the course was much tougher than I thought it would be (the last 6 miles all uphill) and the ground either thick snow or black ice....but I came 3rd lady which I was really pleased with in a time of 61:56.  There were about 250 entrants so a popular race. Apart from the team events like road relays and cross country, this has been my first run for Northbrook.

Pilgrim Challenge - 4/5 February

What a difference a day makes

This was a 2 day event covering 66 miles in total on an out and back off-road (hilly) course.

The Saturday was a bitterly cold day but the route and the views were stunning. There was a getting lost incident and a leaky bladder (of the rucksack variety) situation which led both to pain in the hands due to the cold, but other than that it was a truly fantastic day. Overnight accommodation was provided on a school hall floor which is an interesting option for tired achy limbs.

Sunday morning greeted us with a blanket of snow and a variety of rumours as to whether the race would go ahead. The organisers were able to arrange to move the check points to areas more accessible by road, they moved everyone to the same start time, gave us a briefing on how to deal with emergencies and we were off. We were covering the same route as the day before but in reverse, but because of the snow it couldn’t have looked more different. I think this is Dave’s excuse for getting lost four times.

This is an extremely hilly course and I admit to being a complete wuss on the downhills; I may have come down most of Box Hill sideways. Again it was a fantastic day but I did get a bit tired towards the end, and I am not keen to hear the sound of feet trudging through slush for a very long time.

Eventually the end was in sight and I managed a ‘sprintish’ finish across the last field to an exceedingly welcome cup of tea and a slightly pale PD.

I can’t wait until the next one - Corinna
