What a fantastic day for Northbrook AC. Humbling to see Fraser in 190th turn himself inside out to make sure that he could stay ahead of the Massey runner and take another place (and another point) for the club, inspiring for all.
A massive effort by everyone on an undulating, muddy and tough course which everyone enjoyed. The result keeps us in third place, following a superhuman effort by Massey Ferguson to win the race, who we trail now by 45 points. More importantly we have a 183 point safety net to 4th place, but this is no time for complacency! Interestingly Nuneaton who were clear leaders, maybe felt a bit complacent and lost a lot of ground. The Northbrook team beat them by 92 points meaning we are only 88 points from 1st place. Another result like this would see Massey Ferguson and ourselves take the top two places. It just goes to show that we can't be complacent and have to work harder than ever in the last race.
BUT, we can't do this without MORE people running. EVERY person counts in a XC race, not just the first 6 or 12. Even if you are the 15th counter for Northbrook and come in 100th place, you could come above the 6th counter of one of our rivals thereby increasing their points. THIS IS THE SAME AS GETTING A POINT FOR YOUR CLUB! You will have made a difference and you will count towards what will be a historic season for the club.
The next race is on Saturday the 9th Feb at our very own Coundon Park (we are hosting). I want EVERY RUNNER who is fit to don the sunburst vest and show the rest of the Birmingham league what we are made of. We should be able to field a team of 40 runners easily.
If you are getting annoyed by my incessant rantings then it will only stop when I have 40 names for the 9th Feb.
YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU! - John
