The inaugural Coombe Abbey Festival of Running featured three multi-lap trail races over 10Km, Half Marathon and Marathon distances, and attracted around 400 runners.
I decided to enter the Marathon, as it was the first one in the Coventry area for nearly 30 years. I have done a few multi-lap trail races but this was the toughest yet, due to the very hot and sunny conditions. Temperatures rose to the mid 20’s during the day. The 2.2 mile lap (approx) started in open fields and then followed a path through the wild flower meadows; this was very scenic but there was a lot of pollen in the air affecting many runners. The end of the lap passed the Coombe information centre and the playground. Runners were asked to take a wristband at the end of each lap to keep track of their progress.
This was definitely one of the hardest races I have run due to the very hot conditions, but I managed to keep going with plenty of water and great support. Dave showed a lot of tenacity to complete the Marathon after recovering from a recent injury. It was also good to see new member Robert finish the Half Marathon - Mark

Nuneaton Aquathlon - 23 June

This was the first time that Nuneaton Tri Club had held an Aquathlon so, although it was a small field, it was a very good event with a very good atmosphere.  Angela and I felt quite at ease from start to finish thanks to the very friendly marshals and our just as friendly support crew (Richard Hands!).
The swim was pool based and although we had to duck under the ropes and swap lanes at the end of every other length, it all ran (or swam) quite smoothly.  Transition was located very close to pool-side and the run was 3 laps round a predominantly grassy course, finishing with one lap around the track before we held our hands in the air when crossing the finishing line.
Cake and coffee was provided at the end (how did they know we run for cake??) prior to medals being handed out.  Pleased to say I came 2nd in my age category, just missing out on first place by 4 seconds. 
All in all, it was a good event and one I would recommend, especially if you are a newbie to these sort of things - Sarah
