First time running this course for some of us and it won't be the last.  A favourite of Richard it has an excellent route, and it's very scenic, well marshalled, and well supported throughout.  The course was peppered with the odd hill but what goes up eventually comes down!! Good bits of flat road to pick your speed up (if you have the energy!).  All in all, a very enjoyable run through some lovely countryside.  Just don't ask about the toilets or shower facilities..........!! - Sarah

A smattering of Northbrook runners at the Sneyd 10 mile today, all looking for the same holy grail……some Northbrook Road Race points. Conditions were great, temperature spot on, no wind, flattish two lap course so perfect really. With a tough XC race in my legs from yesterday and the remnants of a cold I did the only sensible thing, and set off at 5k PB pace, which quickly slowed to more sedate ‘a little bit quicker than HM pace’ for the first half. The first 5 miles was a season's best 5 mile for me. After struggling with injury and hay fever through the Summer it feels good to get a bit of form going towards the end of the season. Miles 7-10 were when my legs decided to remind me of the XC yesterday, but only after overtaking the lumbering Martyn Brunt ;-). Objective reached for all of us (100 points for me). With a 5km and 5m race still to go the championships aren’t over yet! - John

Men's 'A' Team 15th overall after Race 2, 1148 points
Men's 'B' Team 9th overall after Race 2, 1012 points

The results show just what a hard division this is going to be following a tough day on Saturday for the men at Burbage Common. A combination of injury, illness, being out of the country, preparing for next day races and hangovers meant that we had a much depleted side from that which ran at Leamington a month ago. Add to this the strengthened teams put out by the relegation clubs, and this leaves Northbrook in a rather precarious position.

We were last on the day (18th), some 46 points adrift of Amazing Feet in 17th and 80 points adrift of Massey’s in 16th. Sphinx were 15th - 93 points ahead of ourselves. This leaves us fourth from bottom, only 97 points above the relegation places.

Firstly, let me thank EVERYONE who turned up to run and support. The additional points we gained from those incredible sprint finishes, encouragement from the supporters and drive to be part of a fantastic 26-strong team means that we are still in a great position to remain in Division 2 next season. We have strength in depth. Our sixth finisher was 127th, which was higher up the field than the Amazing Feet, Massey Ferguson and Sphinx fourth counter. This is the crucial aspect which will help us retain our Division 2 status. Our B team were 9th on the day, and 9th overall again showing our great strength in depth.

So how do we come back from this? We carry on doing what we are doing by putting out as many runners as possible. With a few fewer injuries and other commitments I am convinced that we are more than strong enough to remain in this division.

Saturday was a HUGE success, with significant damage mitigated by gutsy performances from everyone. Turn up and do that again at Wyken Croft on January 11th, with people improving all the time and missing people returning we will be fine - John

We had 6 Northbrook vests out for this 2nd race in the series of six.  For the first day of December the conditions were good - mild with no wind, and the paths were in good condition.

The event is very well organised and has a great community feel to it, with plenty of prizes; all the usual local clubs were present.  There were lots of Sphinx vests there – I counted at least 10 - but I didn't see any Masseys'.

This was my first GP, but hopefully I will be back again for more in the series as it was great fun.  I knocked 2 minutes off my 5 mile PB so I'm happy with that! - Damian
