Tysoe 10k Windmill Challenge - 31 May

  Spencer Davies   49:36

The race is very well organised, its a shame that it doesn't attract more runners (30 in the field). Fabulously hilly off road race to the top where the Tysoe windmill is, and this year carrying on through the Earl of Northampton's private estate. Absolutely fab scenery and thoroughly recommended to anyone and everyone. This year they put on a fun run for all the family (which attracted just as many runners as the main event) and I think my family added a significant number of runners to this race. Next year, get entered for this one - it's well worth it.

The Ox Marathon - 25 May

Would recommend - Joanne

Well organised and marshalled, nice course through city and parks, and a nice flat finish along the Mersey. Good quality t-shirts - available in extra small too Sarah! Already signed up for next year - highly recommended - Tony

What a day! It was hot, people got lost, cars crashed, there was a fight, TTT left his phone in Andy Ralph’s car, Sarah Booker showed the ‘elite’ mixed team how it is done, and I got some ammunition for the awards night!

It appears that our mixed team got second place, but well done everyone who ran today. The conditions were not great for running but everyone persevered. A special thanks to those who had a long wait for their legs, I’ll make sure you get early ones next year!

The results as far as I know them are shown here; a couple are still missing (results……not people) so if you know their times then please let me know - John

Just two of us from Northbrook this time at the Rugby 6-mile. Weather conditions absolutely perfect. Really enjoyed it, even if it was a PW for me! - Charles

Stroud Trail Marathon - 11 May

  Tony Bowe   5:38:18

By far the most beautiful yet - hills, canals, old railway lines, wooded paths, more hills, tremendous views.
Would do it again tomorrow if it weren't for the mashed quads!

Bosworth Half-Marathon - 11 May

68 Paul Stead   1:33:21
133 Tommy Dempsey   1:39:43
155 Spencer Davies   1:41:55 PB
207 Steve Galvin   1:45:54
239 Paul Robbins   1:48:32*

*Time is gun time, otherwise chip times.

Steady race, blustery conditions but it soon warmed up when we started. The start was awful, really badly organised to the point people were still strapping chips on to their ankles and pinning their numbers on. I managed to sneak a pb in by a whole second!! Lovely course though - Spencer

Bewl Water Marathon - 10 May

  Tony Bowe   4:43:48

A picturesque trail marathon around largest lake in south east.
Even the rain couldn't spoil it.

A few of us made the journey over to Silverstone instead of lining up for the handicap in search of good times around the race circuit. Thankfully the weather cleared up and we were treated to a dry event, although the wind definitely helped and hindered in equal measure. 1106 runners were present - Richard

Massey Ferguson Mayday Mile - 5 May

8 Scott Shepherd   5:31
10 Richard Hodge   5:34
12 Tony Forde   5:38
14 Paul Robbins   5:51
51 Helen Hodge   9:03

The bare bones are that we all hit PB's today as the mile is such a rarely seen event on the road. I was keen to test myself as I've been out for 8 weeks with an(other) injury, and a mile isn't that far. Is it?
There were two waves - 'A' for those aiming at under 6m30s and 'B' for everyone else. After a quick race briefing to remind us of the fact that it was almost 60 years to the day since Roger Bannister broke 4 mins for the mile, we lined up and were away. The front runners quickly established themselves and myself, Scott and Tony settled into our race. After a couple of hundred metres Scott had put daylight between him and me and Tony and then Tony showed a total lack of respect and started showing me a clean pair of heels as well. We made the turn at what was the furthest point of the course and started to head back to the finish. As we got to the final quarter of the race I'd had enough of Tony and his, frankly, rude attitude towards the Club's iconic (and some may say talismanic) 2011 Road Race Champion and pushed in front of him to begin the final charge for the line. By this point Scott was safely ensconced in the top 10 and it was left to Tony and me to battle it out for the GLORY of second placed Northbrook finisher.
There was a short downhill stretch before a killer uphill kick and Tony was not giving up in his quest to give me a good shoeing, which meant we both sprinted to the line like the majestic gazelle-like thoroughbreds we are. Paul came in a handful of seconds back to ensure all the Northbrook men were safely under 6min miling.
Helen represented the women in the 'B' wave and came close to breaking the 9 min barrier in what were very good conditions - Richard

Kenilworth Mayday 10k - 5 May

14 Mike Wheeler   44:25
72 Spencer Davies   52:54

This one was a really tough course, 3 laps, 3 hills per lap and all off road. Its never going to be a pb course but very well organised and a fab run out - Spencer

British Masters 10k Championships - Great East Anglia 10k - 5 May

91 John Wilson   37:09 PB

The reasons for doing this race were two-fold, firstly it was my first race as a British Masters competitor and so I wanted to give it a go. More realistically though, the Club championship is hotting up and I wanted to maximise my chances of 100 points for the 10k distance. My 38:30 at the Regency was not going to last until the end of the year. A bit sneaky to not tell anyone? Maybe, but in my defence I don't really care ;-).
The course is absolutely pancake flat, as you would expect for King's Lynn. the step up and over a kerb being the biggest incline and decline in the entire race, so no excuses there. The weather was perfect and so no excuses there either. The race is organised like a big city race with chip timing etc., but with only 2000 runners which was great. I still managed to meet some local runners on the start line though, Kenilworth being represented by Phil Gould, and Godiva by Howard, Joseph and Ian. Safe to say that I didn't see Phil once the starting gun went off, but I did maintain some club dignity by finishing well ahead of the Godiva trio.
The race itself went well. I managed to hold my position up until about 7km and then a few runners started to come past as I tired. Nothing left for a sprint finish at the end which is always a sign of a good amount of effort during the race itself. Finished in 37:09, which equals my PB at Regency last year. Will it be enough for 100 points by the end of the year? Possibly not, the youngsters really are starting to look quick. Will there be more sneaky races? Probably, I can't tell you, they wouldn't be sneaky then would they?

12 Hour Conti Lightning Run - 4 May

Chris Jones

  Lap 1   1:03:36
  Lap 2   1:06:46
  Lap 3   1:16:37
  Lap 4   1:41:24
  Lap 5   1:53:29
  Lap 6   2:17:34
  Lap 7   2:45:27

This is a 12 hour version of the Thunder Run, so 10K laps of an off-road multi-terrain course. Running as a solo competitor for the first time I managed 7 laps, so 70K or 44 miles in old money. Brilliant event, the usual tech t-shirt and bling at the end. Would recommend this event and will be back next year for more laps.

Worcester Marathon - 4 May

40 Dave Halford   3:31:44
  Tony Bowe   5:10:44
