Run to the Castle - 16 August

28 Spencer Davies   11:13:12

This was a 42 mile, mainly off-road event on the Welsh coastal path. It has some of the most amazing scenery I have ever had the good fortune to run through. As usual with one of Denzils events this was meticulously marked out, organized in fine detail and the fun factor was encouraged. The views from Cader Idris were stunning. I didn't struggle as much this year as last, but I wanted to enjoy this one and the fairy wings and tiara kept me, the other competitors and my support crew smiling - Spencer

Eight Northbrookers managed the Wednesday evening trip down the M42 to a great back to basics event with alleged PB potential.....  It was a great event - turn up, pay your 4 quid, race, get chocolate bar and bottle of water, head back to the bar for a light ale, home - Job Done!
The course was a little lumpier than I was led to believe (PB potential 3/5!), not pancake flat but slightly hillier than Coventry Memorial Park Parkrun. A field of 190 speedie folk turned up looking whippet like so I thought I best pull on my A shirt (Sunburst obviously) and play my A game.  Not quite the elusive sub-20 PB that I was after, but 20:25 on the night is a good effort with my heavy legs!
Hats of to Mr Lumsden who absolutely stormed it and posted a 17:39. Stuart you did us proud with also pulling out a top 25 finish - Damian

Despite the awful weather, this well organised race was thoroughly enjoyable. Officially, the distances are 1.5k, 40k and 10k for the swim, cycle and run respectively, but my GPS indicated shorter distances for the cycle and run, and I know I can’t swim 1500m that fast! Nevertheless, it is well worth doing and the cross training is great for running, so I’ll expect to see a few of you there next year.

First attempt for both of us at this distance and I am sure it won't be the last. An excellent event, very well organised from start to finish that begins on the Saturday with the sprint and super sprint distances and then the olympic distance taking place on the Sunday.
Due to the sheer number of people, everyone is sent off in half hourly waves, starting at 6.45am and going through till 3pm.  However, the crowds during all parts of the race on both days were superb and not once did we lack support from people along the way.
Only itsy bitsy niggle was the distance that you had to run into T1 and T2 each time but we were aware of that when entering the race so no real complaints as the marshals were very encouraging.
Would highly recommend this one for people that are just getting into Triathlon as its definitely a 'friendly' event and welcomes newcomers with open arms. (Oh, and if you like a spot of shopping, the Expo that is taking place along side the event is well worth a look!!) - Sarah

The Railway Ultra - 2 August

63 Spencer Davies   6:00:54

On this one the famous Northbrook sunburst was accompanied by fairy wings and a tiara, the plaque about fuelled by fairy dust was a last minute addition and the fairy dust was needed. This was a 28 or 36 mile ultra event with the option to bail out at 28 if needed. I took that option.
Set in Coalport near Telford the route consisted of a 4.5ish mile out and 4.5ish mile back leg along the disused railway. As usual with one of Denzils events the organisation was great and the atmosphere was superb. What I never considered was the razor sharp stones that make up disused railways. My last leg made me feel like I was running on glass!! Still I got the finish in a fairly decent time for me and my unusual running outfit kept not only my morale but others entertained during the event. Time to refine for the next one in 2 weeks time - Spencer
