The official race distance is 10.13 Km
Having heard about this race from other Nortbrookers, I thought that I
had to give it a go just to see how big the hill is that they all keep
going on about. Well..............they were right. A hill in my eyes
is a slight incline that you need to work a little harder at. This was
a mountain! You hit the hill within 3/4 mile of starting and then have
2 miles of hard slog to get to the top. Everytime we turned a corner I
could not believe that it kept on going up, but it did.
However, I was determined, like my fellow clubmates, not to let it get the
better of me and to keep on going. After all, what goes up has to eventually
come down......and it did (eventually!). In fact the down bit was short
and sharp and had a gradient of 14%. Not ideal underfoot in the icy conditions.
On the whole, it was a well organised event with plenty of participants and
supporters around the course. Definitely one to do again. Once my legs
have recovered from the mountain that is! Its not an accurate 10k, more
like 6.3 miles but I can forgive them the extra bit as I won £10 for coming
first in my age category. Oh and the momento for finishing......3 sausages........bizarre!! -

Second time for me on this route and it's just as I remembered it, very hilly
but very scenic. This year we were joined by a good head-wind for the first
7 miles whilst attacking the hills. However, the support around the course
was excellent and kept us all going. Rob Cox (Sally's husband) did an excellent
job of cheering us on throughout the morning as he cycled backwards and forwards
around the course uttering words of encouragement (at least I think that's
what they were!). Definitely one to do again despite it being a tough course
with more hills than the Lake District, but that's how we like it!!! -

A decent turnout from Northbrook for this festive road race, and with only
a couple of weeks left it looked like there were a few club members turning
up trying to sneak in a counting event for the RR Championships. Cool, calm
conditions faced the runners and the event was well organised, utilising
a 5 mile loop that allowed a 5-mile and a 10-mile race to be done concurrently.
Apparently double Commonwealth gold medallist (triathlon) Jodie Stimpson
was running but as she was well under the hour, none of us got a good look
at her until the photos came out later!
It was not the most glamorous of events with the first 1.5 miles taking us
through a housing estate but needs must and our first three finishers found
the course and conditions to their liking as they all PB'ed - Rich
