The venue for this was changed at the last minute from Stafford common to
Prestwold Hall due to conditions being too bad even for cross-country to happen.
So take note all potential want to participate cross-country runners if it's
too bad they do cancel it!! Instead 8 Northbrookers headed up the M1 to a very
nice area just outside Loughborough, to a course that was not flat, did have
a headwind blowing into your face on the uphills, then propelling you downhill
and was very "spongy" underfoot.
The ladies started us off with a sprint to the start line but all came through
the field as we would expect from them. With everyone of our runners being
a counter every runner was valuable. As for the men, there were insufficient
to complete a team and get a placing, but that did not take away the challenge
or competition - Spencer

Perfect conditions again for the fourth race in the series of five. Barely
any wind and it was a tropical 13 degrees. However, due to a persistent cold,
I was not feeling at my best but was determined to get round as I needed the
sausages for dinner (this is the reward you get upon crossing the line). I
am pleased to say though that my friends and clubmates did Northbrook
proud and put in some good times on what is arguably the hardest way that
they run this race. Spencer certainly had his work cut out as Cath was snapping
at his heels from a very early stage, whilst Mark and Alison seem to go from
strength to strength and improve on their times.
The final race in the series
is next month (Feb 21st), should any other northbrookers fancy a crack at Ilmington
Hill!!! - Sarah

It was a cold day with snow in Coventry but clear roads over in Stratford made for good racing conditions. This race really is a race of two halves. With a steady incline to the ascent that is Loxley Hill in the first half, then all down hill or flat to the "bump" at the end means that at half way you can smile and put your head down. For me I see improvement again and the obvious result was Darron disappearing into the distance after 4.5km. Would recommend this one for next year - Spencer

This was a cold and windy Northbrook day out to Birmingham to compete at the Warwickshires. Fifteen of us went over with supporters to keep our spirits up. What we all feared of being a mud bath totally disappeared into some hilly underlations around a twisty course that was pretty solid under foot. The ladies went 1st and Captain Amanda came 2nd for the Warwickshire Masters leading her colleagues home with some amazing runs all the way through the team. Men's Captain John led his team home again with some spirited runs all the way through the field. Overall a great day out, fantastic cross-country course and one not to be missed next year - Spencer
