A lovely trail run, slightly over marathon distance in the end. Really enjoyable, great support, plenty of cake and cups of coffee at aid stations. Would thoroughly recommend.

**overall series winner in age category
Last one in the series for this race over at Ilmington and a good turnout
for Northbrook. Today was all about starting, finishing and getting
the hoodie - the ultimate prize for completing all five
races. However,
prior to collecting our coveted prizes, we had to climb that flippin' hill,
again, and
in what felt like a force 10 gale. But climb it we did. Thank
goodness the wind was in our favour on the descent as it gave us a very brief
respite before turning back into it again. All Northbrookers
put in a valiant effort despite a few of us suffering from illness and injuries. It
must have been the thought of those hoodies, and of course the sausages awarded
to every runner upon crossing the finishing line.
I'm pleased to report that Cath and I were each awarded a very fine glass
trophy for winning our overall age categories, a somewhat unexpected surprise. Awards
should have gone to supporters too as without their cheers over the last
few races it would have been a lot less enjoyable. So thanks to Tracy
Cox and the Northbrook support crew :-)
Now it's sausage batch time - Sarah
The last in the series and the eleven of us that turned up were battered
and bruised from illness and injury. This was a cold and windy day with the
hill that keeps giving. Tony led us home this time around and following him
meant I could see there was no way I was going to find anything to catch
him. Everyone had their battles throughout the field with fellow clubmates
and rival clubs friends. But you can't keep the girls from performing, and
to our delight both Sarah and Cath picked up series awards for all their
efforts throughout the winter.
Well done ladies, time we men raised our
game -
Spencer

Richard Hodge | 1:32:39 | ||

Graham Dodd | DNF |
A race of mixed fortunes for our intrepid travellers this week. Stu led
from the front in style by breaking both the 80min barrier and the sub
6min/miling barrier for a HM, and clocked an astounding 77m39s for 80th overall.
Considering the standard of the field, to be in the top 100 is quite an achievement
It's been seven years since anyone's done that sort of time in the club
so it's been a long time coming.
Sadly, the other three men did less well, with low-level viral infections
ruining the chances for Rich and Graham.
Our ladies fared better, with Corinna
especially posting a good sub 1h40 time showing the potential of Wokingham's
flat course. Nine weeks until London and Stu's form is bubbling away
nicely - Rich
Gloucester Cross-Country League Race, Warwick University - 20 February

We were invited to this race by our friends at Kenilworth Runners, and the course was certainly a challenging one. Six Northbrookers (3 ladies and 3 men) turned up to run. We had almost as many Northbrook supporters (cross country season, other impending races and illness certainly took its toll on some of the regular runners). These, plus the normal cheer squad I drag along meant we were vocally supported throughout the race. Plenty of mud, water soaked fields, gravelly paths and some inclines gave us a challenge that tested legs and balance. The ladies went first and Captain Clare led our 3 ladies home to a team position of 15 out of 20 on the day. The men followed and I soon found myself resembling Bambi on ice (maybe trail shoes that were on their last legs were not the best idea) nearly taking team mate Darron out after a mile. But we all got round and did the Northbrook sunburst proud in a new cross country field - Spencer
