As the cheers died down from Mo Farah’s sub 13 minute 5k at the Olympic Stadium earlier in the day, 220 runners assembled at Mary Arden’s Farm in Wilmcote to emulate his athletic prowess at the Stratford 6 mile race. At 27 centigrade it was a warm evening for running, but the athletes were spurred on by the points at stake in the eighth race of the 2016 Warwickshire Road Race League series. Nine Northbrook runners gave a good account of themselves on the mildly undulating course punctuated with a reasonable hill descended in mile 1 and ascended (groan) in mile 6. Stu Lumsden was the first sunburst vest to cross the line in 11th position, with the remaining club members following in quick succession. In common with many events in the series, the cake on offer at race end was top quality and represented a satisfying way to offset the calories spent pounding the roads - Terry

Adidas 24 Hour Thunder Run - 23-24 July

The Thunder Run is an endurance event with runners competing either solo, in pairs or in teams of five or eight to cover as much distance as they can in 24 hours. It's run as a relay around a 10k course, off road with plenty of technical bits - running through woods, up and down hills and through fields.

12 Labours of Hercules - 16/17 July

This is a fantastic event that's not for the faint hearted. It's simply 12 legs with a 24hr cutoff and over 16000 ft of climbing.

Each leg starts at the same place and is a different length from the others. Directions are a map and written race instructions, but very little guidance on the course. There's also a "labour" to complete on each leg (imagine memorising rhymes and completing maths questions on sleep depravation). Give us each a month to forget how torturous and broken we feel and I'm sure we will be considering defeating Hercules again next year - Spencer
