The race series with "the hill" continued today, and it is fair to say that we were all no less competitive than usual, despite the race taking place the morning after Boxing Day. The dogfight continued between Spencer, Tony and me but, despite Tony and me upping our games, Spencer put in an incredible performance to show that he is still the undisputed king of the hill. Jill's time was particularly fast for a debut performance. However, the star runner had to be Anne who, after narrowly missing it last time, managed to get under the critical 1 hour mark - Paul
Wolves and Bilston Turkey Trot 5 Mile - 18 December

This is the second year on the (turkey) trot that I've done this race, so it would be nice to have some Northbrook company next year. After an initial 1.5 laps around a track, the route encompasses numerous steady inclines over the first couple of miles. Not the flattest route then, but the last half a mile or so is downhill, so a strong finish is assured. Not the most picturesque race, but good for grabbing last minute road race league points.

Eight Northbrookers headed up to the pudding run, most looking for
Road Race League points on what was a cold but dry start to the day. Unfortunately
for one of us the warm up was too much for a niggling injury and a wise decision
to spectate was taken. For the rest of us he was a welcome sight
and encouragement was plentiful. This is a great course, approximately 5
miles per lap, so on the 2nd lap you knew what was coming - a slight incline
that meant what you went up, you came back down to finish. There was a great
battle in the middle order between Mark holding off a charging Paul
while I was trying to hold on to their coat tails. Its reputation as a fast
course is evident with
5 out of 6 of us notching up PBs (and all-important Road Race points). There
were 284 finishers in the 10 mile event, and all the Northbrook sunbursts
finished within the top 35% of the field, testament to all the hard
work put into training. Jill kept the sunburst
beaming brightly on the 5 mile course with a tremendous position
of 1st
in her age category. Well done to all - Spencer

Eight Northbrookers headed over to Chelmsley Wood on a frosty cold morning
for the 2nd race in the series. Perfect running conditions even if three of
us were on tired legs from the Stratford cross-country course. Not that, that
was an excuse because everyone had a fantastic run, chasing club colleagues
around and achieving what we set out to do. Great atmosphere again and a great
course, thoroughly recommend this one - Spencer

Another great turn out by the Ladies at Stratford, combined with some excellent performances, led to Northbrook finishing in 9th place overall, and 3rd in the Masters category. The course was tough, but the women showed their mettle, improving on our position from the first race at Leamington - Clare

Race 2 and 22 Northbrook men headed over to the Welcombe Hills in Stratford
for this Bham League race. We were missing some of our colleagues from Newbold
Comyn but welcomed back some seasoned campaigners and new faces. The Welcombe
Hills lived up to their reputation, there was not much flat and the start was
straight up one of the biggest hills on the course. We all listened on to whatever
tips the ladies could offer us of their assault on the course. It looked like
a scene from Braveheart as the gun went off. Three laps and again we all had
our battles, chasing the runner in front, looking for a club colleague to target
for support and watching our backs all the way round. Support from Bob, Rich
C and the whole of the ladies team kept us on our toes and was very much appreciated.
Fantastic runs from all of us right through the field when the level again
seemed to have increased since Newbold. A fantastic debut from Rory and an
A team finish for Seb were amongst the many stories to unfold. We still have
work to do guys and Telford awaits on the 14th Jan; clean your spikes off and
clear your diaries - we all need to do it all again - Spencer
