Leg 6, Northleach to Lower Swell (10.3 miles) - Richard Vaughan

It was a hot day and I knew it was going to be hard work. Even standing in the shade was too warm!

I received the baton from Mark at about 12:45pm. After the first 2 miles it became apparent that this was going to be a matter of survival rather than pace. I just had two things in my mind - finish and don't walk (or I'd still be walking it now). Next bit was over a hilly section to come down through Bourton-on-the-Water, which was a real sun trap. I crossed the main road and on to the last 4 miles which seemed to be mainly uphill and a real struggle by now. Being part of the team inspired me to push on and I made it to hand over to Mick. I could now fall in the shady hedgerow and relax.

Richard Vaughan.
